Our Mission

30 10 2017

The mission of the Association is to advance general aviation safety in the Great Lakes region through a multifaceted program initiated and advanced by the Designated Pilot Examiners. Our program will include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Testing standardization: The group will work to standardize testing procedures in accordance with the FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS) or Practical Test Standards (PTS) and FAA directed procedures. This will include reviews of procedures, dialog with Flight Standard District Offices, and peer counseling if necessary.
  • Problem discussion and resolution: The group will identify problems discovered in training and testing area pilots. The group will discuss these problems, and will work for resolution of the problems. We will provide a forum for the training community to raise questions and complaints about the conduct of testing.
  • Communications with training facilities and with the FSDO: Meetings will be scheduled to include instructors, flight school managers, and FAA personnel to cover training and testing issues.
  • Training program production: The group will produce programs, promote FAAST activities, and recruit from the general aviation community those with useful material for the advancement of the overall goal of safety.
  • Communications with the FAA nationally: The group will communicate with FAA national resources with questions and proposed changes to future Airman Certification Standards (ACS) or Practical Test Standards (PTS) and other publications. We will also work to promote and resolve problems with existing programs.
